Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS)-Canada is a national not-for-profit that is entirely student led. SEDS-Canada's mission is to strengthen Canada’s future in space by providing post-secondary students with unique projects, research programs, and professional development opportunities in the Canadian governmental, industrial and institutional space sectors. I have been on the Board of Directors since April 2020, as the VP Internal.
As the VP Internal I have several responsibilities within the organization. One of my primary responsibilities is to lead a team of 5 staff members to manage SEDS-Canada's media and communication outreach. I help the media and communications staff when needed by creating social media content using Canva and editing the website using Wordpress and Elementor. As well, I work closely with a staff member to ensure we are promoting multidisciplinary opportunities for students and new grads in the SEDS-Canada monthly newsletter. I am working with other Directors in developing and implementing SEDS-Canada membership reform by working on upgrading our membership benefits and increasing access to those benefits. A major project of mine is developing the infrastructure to re-establish the SEDS-Canada's chapter program. This is being done by developing documentation and guides to aid students interested in creating SEDS-Canada chapters within their own universities and academic communities.
Outside of my primary responsibilities, I am passionate about event planning and have helped with the planning of the Virtual Ascension 2021 space conference being held in February. I also co-organized the McMaster Women in Engineering & SEDS-Canada 'Women in Space Night' hosted virtually during McMaster's Second Space Week this past November. I was responsible for reaching out to our fantastic speakers and organizing the virtual platform. The event was successful and would not have been possible without our amazing speakers pictured below!
